Zobo drink, also known as Hibiscus tea or Roselle drink, is a popular Nigerian beverage made from dried hibiscus leaves. It is full of vitamins, antioxidants, and it has a unique tangy taste. This article will take you through the steps on how to make delicious Zobo drink in 10 easy steps.

Step 1: Gather ingredients

To make Zobo drink, you will need:

– 2 cups of dried hibiscus leaves (Zobo leaves)

– 8 cups of water

– 1 tablespoon of grated ginger

– 1/2 cup of pineapple (chopped)

– Sugar or honey (to taste)

– Cloves (optional)

– Cinnamon stick (optional)

Step 2: Rinse the Zobo leaves

Place the dried hibiscus leaves in a colander and rinse under running water thoroughly to remove any debris or dust.

Step 3: Boil water

Bring 8 cups of water to a rolling boil in a large pot.

Step 4: Add the Zobo leaves and ginger

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed Zobo leaves and grated ginger into the pot.

Step 5: Add spices (optional)

If you would like, add a few cloves and a cinnamon stick at this stage to give your Zobo drink extra flavor.

Step 6: Simmer

Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 30 – 45 minutes. During this time, the liquid will turn a deep red color and absorb the flavors from the leaves and spices.

Step 7: Add pineapple

Before you remove the mixture from heat, add in the chopped pineapple pieces and let them simmer for about five more minutes. This will give your Zobo drink a nice fruity taste.

Step 8: Strain the mixture

Using a fine mesh strainer, carefully strain the liquid into a bowl or jug, separating it from the leaves, ginger, and any other added ingredients. Be sure to press the Zobo leaves with a wooden spoon or spatula to extract all of the liquid.

Step 9: Sweeten and chill

Taste the Zobo drink and add sugar or honey based on your preference. Stir well to ensure that it dissolves properly. Refrigerate your Zobo drink for a few hours to cool it completely before serving.

Step 10: Serve

Pour the chilled Zobo drink into glasses and serve with ice cubes. You can also garnish with mint leaves or fresh pineapple slices for an extra touch of elegance.

Enjoy your refreshing, healthy, and homemade Zobo drink!
