Introduction:

Rooh Afza is a popular, refreshing rose-flavored syrup originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is usually mixed with cold water or milk to make a delightful, cooling summer drink. In this article, we will guide you through the simple steps to make your own homemade Rooh Afza.

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of rose petals

– 1 cup of sugar

– 1/2 cup of water

– 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

– 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid

– A pinch of cardamom powder

– A pinch of food-grade rose pink color (optional)

Step 1: Gather Fresh Rose Petals

Start by collecting fresh, pesticide-free rose petals from your garden or purchase them from a reputable seller. Ensure that the petals are clean and devoid of any dirt or insects.

Step 2: Prepare a Rose Petal Paste

In a blender, combine the rose petals with a little water to form a smooth paste. Make sure not to add too much water as it may dilute the flavor.

Step 3: Create the Rose Syrup

In a saucepan, bring the sugar and water to boil until it reaches a one-string consistency. Then, reduce the heat and add the rose petal paste. Continue to mix on low heat for about 15 minutes until the mixture thickens.

Step 4: Flavor and Preserve the Syrup

Next, stir in lemon juice and citric acid into the mixture. The citric acid will help preserve the syrup while enhancing its tangy taste.

Step 5: Adding Aromatic Touches

Add a pinch of cardamom powder to give the syrup an aromatic touch, blending well with the fragrance of roses.

Step 6: Enhance Color (Optional)

Although optional, you can give your Rooh Afza a vibrant touch by adding a pinch of food-grade rose pink color to the mixture. Remember, a little goes a long way!

Step 7: Bottle and Store

Let the mixture cool completely, then strain it to remove any residue and transfer it to a sterilized glass bottle. Seal it tightly and store it in a cool, dark place. Rooh Afza can last for up to six months.

Now that you have your homemade Rooh Afza syrup, simply mix one part syrup with four parts chilled water or milk to create your refreshing beverage. Enjoy!
