How to Make Kool-Aid Wine: 12 Steps

Kool-Aid wine, also known as “prison wine” or “hooch,” is a homemade fermented beverage made from Kool-Aid and other simple ingredients. This DIY project can be fun and easy if you’re looking to experiment with fermentation or just want something different to drink. Please note that this recipe is for those of legal drinking age only.

Follow these 12 steps to create your own Kool-Aid wine:

1. Gather your ingredients:

– 2 packets of Kool-Aid (any flavor)

– 2 cups of granulated sugar

– 1 packet of active dry yeast

– 4 liters of warm water

– Empty water jug or container (for fermenting)

2. Sterilize your jug or container by either boiling it for a few minutes or using a no-rinse sanitizer – cleanliness is crucial in the fermentation process.

3. Mix the Kool-Aid powder and sugar in a large bowl, stirring until well combined.

4. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in some warm water (approximately 1/4 cup) according to packet instructions.

5. Add the dissolved yeast mixture to the Kool-Aid and sugar mix, blending thoroughly.

6. Pour the combined mixture into your sterilized container – make sure there’s enough empty space at the top for gas release during fermentation.

7. Fill the rest of the container with warm water, leaving about two inches of headspace at the top. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are mixed properly.

8. Slightly screw on the container’s lid – don’t tighten completely, as gas must escape during fermentation, or use an airlock if you have one available.

9. Store your fermenting Kool-Aid wine in a dark area, away from direct sunlight, at room temperature between 70°F and 75°F.

10. Allow the fermentation process to take place for two to three weeks, checking on the container regularly to ensure there’s no excessive pressure build-up, which could cause an explosion.

11. Once your Kool-Aid wine has been fermenting for the desired time, taste-test it for optimal flavor. If satisfied with the taste, transfer the wine into a new sterilized container using a siphon or a funnel lined with a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove any sediment.

12. Refrigerate your Kool-Aid wine for at least 24 hours before consuming, allowing it to chill and stabilize in flavor.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully created your Kool-Aid wine. Enjoy responsibly and always drink within moderation.
