Introduction

If you love the look of long, stylish nails but don’t want to shell out for expensive salon treatments or damage your natural nails, then making fake nails out of straws is a fun and economical alternative. In this article, we will walk you through the simple steps it takes to create these eye-catching, temporary nail enhancements from the comfort of your own home.

Materials Required

To make fake nails out of straws, you will need the following materials:

– Straws (preferably clear or translucent; avoid those with patterns)

– Scissors

– Nail file

– Nail polish (colors and topcoat)

– Nail glue or double-sided tape (optional)

Step 1: Choose Your Straws

Opt for plastic straws that are visibly clear or have a translucent appearance. This will allow you to easily paint over them with your desired nail polish colors later on. Avoid patterned or decorated straws, as they may not result in a clean and professional-looking finish.

Step 2: Measure and Cut Your Straws

Before cutting your straws, make sure your natural nails are clean and free from any nail polish. Now, measure the width of your natural nails against the straw and mark where the straw must be cut to fit over each nail appropriately. Keep in mind that each finger may require a slightly different size. Once measured, use your scissors to carefully cut each straw piece to size.

Step 3: Shape Your Fake Nails

Now it’s time to shape your fake nails. You can use either scissors or a nail file to trim the edges and achieve the desired shape – such as square, round, almond or stiletto shapes – depending on your preference. Once done with shaping the tips, use the nail file to smooth any rough edges.

Step 4: Painting Your Fake Nails

With your fake nails shaped and ready, you can now apply your desired nail polish colors. Begin with a base coat to provide a smooth surface for your color polish application. Once the base coat is dry, proceed to paint your fake nails with the colors of your choice. Apply as many coats as needed for a vibrant and opaque appearance. Finish off by sealing your nail art with a topcoat for added shine and protection.

Step 5: Applying Your Fake Nails

You can attach your straw nails to your natural nails using either nail glue or double-sided tape. If using nail glue, apply a small dab on the back of each straw nail and gently press it onto your natural nail. Hold in place for a few seconds until they adhere. If opting for double-sided tape, cut small pieces to fit the size of both your natural and straw nails, attach them together, and press firmly.

Conclusion

Creating fake nails out of straws is an easy DIY project that lets you express yourself creatively without sacrificing the health of your natural nails. With just some basic supplies and a little bit of time, you too can achieve stunning and temporary nail enhancements that are perfect for special occasions or even everyday wear. So why wait? Get started on making your own amazing straw nail designs today!
