Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, is an exotic tropical fruit that has a unique look and flavor. It’s highly nutritious and can easily be transformed into a delicious, homemade jam. Follow these 11 simple steps to create your own dragon fruit jam.

1. Gather the ingredients:

– 3 cups of fresh dragon fruit (peeled and diced)

– 1 cup of granulated sugar

– ½ cup of lemon juice

– 3 tablespoons of pectin

2. Prepare the dragon fruit: Cut the dragon fruit in half and scoop out the flesh using a spoon. Discard the outer peel. Dice the scooped-out dragon fruit into small chunks.

3. Mix ingredients in a large pot: Combine the diced dragon fruit, sugar, and lemon juice in a large pot over medium heat.

4. Stir frequently to avoid burning: As the mixture heats on the stove, make sure to stir it regularly to prevent scorching.

5. Add pectin to thicken: Once the mixture starts boiling, gradually add pectin while stirring continuously.

6. Boil for 5 minutes: Continue boiling the mixture for about 5 minutes or until it reaches desired consistency.

7. Test jam’s consistency: To check if your jam has reached its ideal consistency, perform a plate test by spooning a small amount onto a cold plate or saucer and letting it cool for a few seconds. If it doesn’t slide off when tilted, it’s ready.

8. Remove from heat: Once you’re satisfied with your jam’s consistency, remove it from heat and let it stand for a few minutes before proceeding with the next step.

9. Sterilize jars and lids: While your jam cools slightly, sterilize mason jars by boiling them in water for about 10 minutes; be sure to sterilize the lids as well.

10. Fill jars with jam: Carefully pour the hot jam into the sterilized jars, leaving around ¼ inch of headspace between the jam and the lid. Wipe the edges of the jars clean before sealing with sterilized lids.

11. Cool and store: Allow sealed jars to cool to room temperature before storing them in a cool, dry place. Once opened, keep your dragon fruit jam refrigerated and enjoy within one month.

By following these 11 simple steps, you’re now ready to savor your homemade dragon fruit jam. Spread it on toast, pair it with cheese, or even use it as a dessert topping – the possibilities are endless! Enjoy this tasty treat and cherish it as a unique addition to your pantry.
