Bombay tea, also known as Masala Chai, is a popular Indian beverage that combines black tea with various spices. This aromatic and flavorful drink is not only delicious but can also provide numerous health benefits due to its rich combination of spices. In this article, we will guide you through the process of making Bombay tea in 14 simple steps.

1. Gather the ingredients:

– 1 cup of water

– 1 cup of milk

– 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves

– 2 green cardamom pods

– 1 small cinnamon stick

– 2 cloves

– 2 black peppercorns

– 1/4 inch ginger piece

– Sugar or honey to taste

2. Crush the spices:

Using a mortar and pestle, lightly crush the cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black peppercorns.

3. Grate or crush the ginger:

Peel the ginger and either grate it using a fine grater or crush it using a mortar and pestle.

4. Boil the water:

In a saucepan, bring one cup of water to a boil.

5. Add the spices:

Once the water comes to a boil, add the crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, black peppercorns, and ginger to the saucepan.

6. Lower heat and simmer:

Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes. This will allow the flavors of the spices to infuse into the water.

7. Add the tea leaves:

After simmering for 5 minutes, add two teaspoons of black tea leaves to the saucepan.

8. Continue to simmer:

Let the mixture continue to simmer for another couple of minutes, allowing enough time for the tea leaves to infuse their flavor into the liquid.

9. Add milk:

Slowly pour in one cup of milk, stirring the mixture gently while doing so.

10. Sweeten the tea:

Add sugar or honey to taste and stir it well to dissolve.

11. Bring to a boil again:

Raise the heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat again and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes.

12. Turn off the heat:

After simmering for 3-4 minutes, turn off the heat and let the tea sit for a minute or two to allow flavors to meld together.

13. Strain the tea:

Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain the tea into cups or glasses, leaving behind any solids from the spices and tea leaves.

14. Serve the Bombay Tea:

Enjoy your homemade Bombay tea piping hot! You can serve it with biscuits or snacks of your choice.

Now that you know how to make Bombay Tea in 14 steps, enjoy this flavorful beverage at any time of day. Not only does it provide warmth during colder months, but its unique blend of spices makes it an excellent soothing and rejuvenating drink year-round.
