How to Make Blood Capsules: 5 Steps

Blood capsules are a great addition to any spooky costume or theatrical performance, and they’re surprisingly easy to make at home. Making your own blood capsules allows for customization and control over the ingredients used. Here are five simple steps to create realistic blood capsules.

1.Gather your materials:

To make blood capsules, you will need:

– Empty gelatin capsules (size 00 is recommended)

– Edible stage blood (you can buy it pre-made or make it yourself – see step 3)

– A small syringe or pipette

– A plate or tray to catch any mess

– Latex gloves (optional but helpful)

2.Prepare your work area:

It’s essential to keep your workspace clean since you will be putting the blood capsule in your mouth. Lay out a plate or tray to catch any excess blood, and place the empty gelatin capsules within easy reach.

3.Make edible stage blood:

You can purchase pre-made edible stage blood, but making it at home is quite simple. Mix together 1 cup of corn syrup, 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup, and 15-20 drops of red food coloring. Adjust the quantities until you get the desired consistency and color. If you want thicker blood, add more chocolate syrup; if you want thinner blood, add more corn syrup.

4.Fill the gelatin capsules with edible stage blood:

Wearing latex gloves may help with this step as it can get messy! Using the small syringe or pipette, draw up some of the edible stage blood and carefully inject it into one half of the gelatin capsule. You should fill it about two-thirds full for optimal results.

5.Assemble the blood capsule:

Once the bottom half of the capsule is filled with stage blood, carefully press the top half onto it until they click together. Wipe any excess blood from the outside of the capsule with a clean cloth or paper towel.

And there you have it – your homemade blood capsules are ready to use! For the best effect, consider practicing placing the capsule in your mouth and biting down on it in front of a mirror. This will give you an idea of how quickly and realistically the blood will flow out when you use them in a performance or as part of a costume.

Remember always to use these capsules responsibly and never ingest the contents, as they are not meant for consumption. Stay safe, have fun, and enjoy adding this realistic touch to your next scary event or performance!
