How to Make an Origami Heart: 15 Steps

If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to express your love or admiration, an origami heart is a perfect choice! The art of paper folding, also known as origami, has been practiced for centuries to transform simple pieces of paper into intricate and stunning designs. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process of creating a beautiful origami heart in 15 easy steps.
Step 1: Select your paper
Choose a square piece of paper that is between 6 and 12 inches in size. You can use traditional origami paper, wrapping paper, or even colored printer paper. Be sure the color and texture of your chosen paper complements your intended design.
Step 2: Create the initial triangle
Fold the square diagonally in half by bringing the top corner down to meet the bottom corner. Press the crease firmly and unfold.
Step 3: Fold each corner down
Fold the left and right bottom corners up so they meet at the center crease made in step 2. You should now have a large triangle with two smaller triangles layered on top.
Step 4: Fold the tip up
Fold the tip of the large triangle up so it touches the top edge of the smaller overlapping triangles.
Step 5: Create kite shape
Fold each side edge of the bottom flap inward so they meet at the center crease. Make a firm crease and repeat on both sides.
Step 6: Fold flaps down
Fold-down both side flaps extended from your kite-shaped base, making sure their tips touch one another along the centerline.
Step 7: Fold flaps back up
Make an accordion-style fold by pulling each flap back up over itself, leaving a small portion of it still covering the inner edges of your kite-shaped base.
Step 8: Tuck flaps inside
Open the top triangle and tuck each flap inside, folding it along the existing creases.
Step 9: Fold bottom corner up
Fold the bottom corner of your kite shape up toward the tucked flaps so that its tip touches the centerline.
Step 10: Create a crease
Make a reverse fold in the bottom corner by opening it up slightly, and folding it back onto itself along the vertical midline.
Step 11: Fold half-heart shape
Fold the left half of your kite backwards along its central vertical crease, leaving only the right half of your heart shape exposed. Flip your paper over and repeat on the other side.
Step 12: Round edges
Round off both bottom edges by gently folding them inward towards the center of your heart.
Step 13: Tuck final edge
Open one side’s flap and tuck in the rounded edge to complete one side of your heart. Close up the flap, flip the heart over, and repeat on the other side.
Step 14: Maintain creases
To ensure that your origami heart maintains its shape, use your fingers to press and reinforce all folds and creases.
Step 15: Completed Origami Heart
Congratulations! You now have a lovely origami heart to share with someone special or display as decoration.
With just a few simple folds and some patience, you can create a beautiful origami heart that makes a meaningful gift or heartfelt decoration. Practice these steps with various types of paper or designs, and you’ll soon be able to fold these hearts with ease!
