How to Make a Tissue Paper Ball: 7 Steps

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To make a tissue paper ball, you’ll need the following materials:

– Tissue paper (8-10 sheets of standard sized tissue paper per ball)

– Scissors

– Twine or string

– Ruler

Step 2: Stack the Tissue Paper

Begin by stacking your tissue paper sheets neatly on top of one another. Make sure the edges line up as perfectly as possible to achieve a clean, even look for your finished tissue paper ball.

Step 3: Measure and Cut

Using a ruler and scissors, measure the length of your tissue paper stack. Depending on the size you want for your finished tissue paper ball, you can either keep the sheets at their full length or trim them to a shorter size. For example, to make a smaller ball you could cut your stack in half.

Step 4: Fold the Paper Accordion Style

Starting at one of the shorter ends, begin folding your stack of tissue paper like an accordion, with each fold being approximately an inch wide. Continue folding back and forth until you reach the opposite end of your tissue paper stack. Make sure your folds are even to create a symmetrical end result.

Step 5: Tie the Center

Once your tissue paper stack has been folded accordion-style, find the center point along its length. Using twine or string, tie a tight knot around this center point. Be careful not to tear the delicate tissue paper as you do this.

Step 6: Trim the Edges

To give your tissue paper ball a more polished appearance, trim the edges along both sides of your folded stack. You can cut them into rounded or pointed shapes to create different visual effects when you later separate the layers.

Step 7: Unfold and Fluff

Carefully start unfolding and separating each layer of tissue paper from the center knot. Gently pull each layer up and away from the others, fluffing them out until you achieve a full, rounded ball shape. Use caution during this step, as tissue paper can tear easily.

Your tissue paper ball is now complete and ready for display! Hang it from a ceiling or attach it to gifts for an extra touch of elegance. With practice, you can create tissue paper balls of varying sizes and colors to suit any decor or event theme. Enjoy your newfound DIY skill!
