How to Make a Sun Costume: 12 Steps
Creating a sun costume can be a fun and creative activity for Halloween, a school play, or any costume party. Follow these 12 simple steps to make your own sun costume and impress everyone with your radiance!
1. Gather materials: To make your sun costume, you’ll need yellow and/or gold fabric, scissors, glue or a sewing kit, yellow thread, cardboard, an elastic band or ribbon, yellow or gold pipe cleaners, and headbands or hair clips.
2. Measure: Measure the circumference of the person who will wear the costume and cut the fabric accordingly. Be sure to add a few extra inches for seam allowance.
3. Cut the fabric: Cut out two large circles from the fabric. These will become the front and back of your sun costume.
4. Create rays: Cut out extended triangles from the remaining fabric in different sizes for the sun’s rays. You’ll need about 20 to 24 rays.
5. Attach rays: Place the triangles around the border of one of the large circles, making sure they are evenly spaced out. Sew or glue them in place.
6. Combine fabric pieces: Pin the two large circles together, aligning their edges with rays facing outwards. Sew or glue along the outer edge, leaving an opening at the top for head and arms to pass through.
7. Add armholes: Cut two armholes on each side of the costume at an appropriate height for easy movement.
8. Finish edges: Sew or glue around the armholes and opening at top to tidy up any frayed edges.
9. Prepare for wearing: Depending on the wearer’s preference, you may sew an elastic band or ribbon into the costume so it can be easily worn around their waist or as shoulder straps.
10. Cut cardboard circle: Measure and cut a circle out of cardboard that will be placed under your headpiece for added stability and structure.
11. Create headpiece: Using the yellow or gold pipe cleaners, create a sunburst design around a headband or hair clips. Attach them securely to keep the shape.
12. Attach cardboard: Glue or sew the circle of cardboard to the underside of the headpiece, positioning it so that it will rest comfortably on the wearer’s head.
Now your sun costume is ready to shine! Wear it proudly and enjoy looking dazzlingly bright at any event you attend.
