How to Make a Paper Boat: 10 Steps
Step 1: Choose the Right Paper
Select a rectangular sheet of paper, preferably A4 size or standard letter paper. Thicker paper works better for this project.
Step 2: The First Fold
Fold the top edge of the paper down to the bottom edge and make a crease. Open the fold and lay it flat.
Step 3: Creating the Triangle
Fold both corners on one side down toward the center crease, making sure they touch the center fold. You’ll now have an upward-facing triangle shape.
Step 4: Trimming Down
Fold both triangle flaps upwards so they align with the base of the large triangle. Flip over, and fold up again on the other side as well.
Step 5: Forming the Diamond
Grab both flaps you folded up in step four and pull them outward to flatten your paper while creating a diamond shape.
Step 6: Refining Your Diamond
Fold both corners of the lower end of your diamond inward so they meet at the center crease.
Step 7: Creating Wings
Just like with step four, fold both bottom flaps up, creating two wings on either side of your diamond. Flip over, and do this on the other side also.
Step 8: Turning It into a Boat
Take hold of each wing you created in step seven and gently pull them apart, flattening your shape into a square boat-like form.
Step 9: Opening Your Boat
Pinch and lift your boat’s center point while pushing together its outer edges. This will open up a space in its center, finalizing your boat shape.
Step 10: Testing Your Paper Boat
Place your finished paper boat on water and watch it float! Enjoy experimenting with different sizes and shapes for even more fun.
