How to Make a Bam Bam Costume
Introduction:
If you’re a fan of the classic animated television series The Flintstones, you might have considered dressing up as one of the beloved characters for a theme party or Halloween. One such character is Bam Bam Rubble, the strong and boisterous son of Barney and Betty Rubble. This article will guide you through the process of making your own Bam Bam costume at home.
Materials:
– 1-2 yards of orange fabric (leopard print, if possible)
– Black fabric marker or fabric paint
– Scissors
– White fabric or felt
– Glue gun or fabric glue
– Safety pins or sewing materials
– A white bone hair clip or a small foam bone and hair clip
– Socks or sandals (optional)
Step 1: Create Bam Bam’s Tunic
Measure the circumference of your waist and hip area, as well as the desired length for your tunic. Once you have these measurements, cut out a large rectangular piece of orange fabric.
If your fabric isn’t already leopard printed, use the black fabric marker or paint to draw irregular-shaped black spots on the fabric. Allow it to dry before proceeding.
Fold the rectangular fabric in half and sew along the sides, leaving enough space at the top for you to easily slip in and out of your tunic. Cut out a jagged hemline at the bottom to mimic the appearance of Bam Bam’s outfit.
Step 2: Add White Fabric Accents
Using the white felt or fabric, cut out a circle with an open center. Slide this over your waist area while wearing the tunic to act as a belt. If needed, secure this belt using safety pins or some stitches so it doesn’t slide around during wear.
Step 3: Prepare Muscle/Club Prop (Optional)
To complete your costume with some added flair, create an exaggerated foam club or use a toy club. You could also wear a muscle shirt underneath your tunic if you’d like to mimic Bam Bam’s muscular appearance.
Step 4: Assemble the Bone Hair Clip
If you have purchased a white bone hair clip, then this step is as simple as attaching the clip to your hair or wig. If you’re making a bone clip from a small foam piece, cut it in the shape of a bone and attach it to a regular hair clip using hot glue or fabric glue.
Step 5: Final Touches
With your costume complete, make sure all components are securely attached and comfortable. Add socks or sandals if desired and be prepared to wow everyone with your homemade Bam Bam costume at your next party or event!
Conclusion:
Creating your own Bam Bam costume is not only fun but also cost-effective. With just a few materials and some creativity, you can bring one of The Flintstones’ most beloved characters to life. Happy sewing and enjoy your prehistoric adventures!
