Introduction:

Family sharing is a great way to connect with your loved ones, share purchases, and sync content on multiple devices. However, there might come a time when you would prefer to manage your apps, movies, or other content independently. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do that.

Step 1: Know what you’ll lose

Before leaving family sharing, be aware that you will lose access to apps, movies, television shows, books, music, and any paid subscriptions associated with the family group.

Step 2: Update your devices

Ensure that all your devices are updated to the latest operating system versions, as it makes the leaving process smoother and prevents unexpected issues.

Step 3: Open Settings

On your iOS device (iPhone or iPad), open the Settings app.

Step 4: Find your name

Scroll down and tap on your name at the top of the settings screen. This will open the Apple ID page.

Step 5: Access Family Sharing

When on the Apple ID page, tap “Family Sharing.” This will display the details of your current family group.

Step 6: Ensure leave option is available

Before proceeding further, confirm whether it’s been over a year since you last switched family groups. The ‘Leave’ option will be unavailable if you have switched within the past year.

Step 7: Locate “Leave Family”

Scroll down to find the “Leave Family” option at the bottom of the screen.

Step 8: Tap “Leave Family”

Tap on “Leave Family,” and a confirmation pop-up window will appear.

Step 9: Confirm your decision

Tap on “Confirm” if you’re sure you want to leave family sharing. Keep in mind that this action cannot be undone once initiated.

Step 10: Wait for process completion

Leaving family sharing may take up to a minute, so be patient and wait for the process to complete.

Step 11: Check the status

Once the process is done, the Family Sharing screen should display a message stating that you’re not part of any family group.

Step 12: Update your billing information

It’s essential to update your billing information after leaving family sharing. Head back to the Apple ID page, and tap “Payment & Shipping” to review and update your payment methods.

Conclusion:

Leaving family sharing is simple with these 12 steps. Remember that this action will discontinue access to shared content and paid subscriptions within the family group, so make a well-informed decision before proceeding.
