1. Find the right henna powder: To achieve a rich red hue, choose a high-quality henna powder specifically formulated for hair dyeing. Look for Body Art Quality (BAQ) henna, which will have a higher dye content and provide better results.

2. Prepare your workspace: Henna can stain surfaces, so cover your work area with newspaper or plastic. Be sure to wear gloves as well to protect your hands from staining.

3. Test the henna mixture on a strand of hair: Before applying henna to your entire head, test a small amount on an inconspicuous strand of hair to ensure the color and consistency are to your liking.

4. Mix the henna paste: Combine equal parts of henna powder and distilled water until you get a thick and smooth consistency. For an extra boost of red, you may add lemon juice or a few drops of red food coloring.

5. Let the mixture sit for dye release: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for eight hours to allow the dye molecules to fully develop.

6. Section your clean, dry hair: Divide your hair into four sections – two in front and two in back – making it easier to apply the henna evenly.

7. Apply the henna paste: Starting at the roots of one section, use a brush or your gloved fingers to apply the mixture all over your head, working towards the tips of each section. Ensure that every strand is thoroughly coated.

8. Wrap your hair in plastic wrap: Once you have applied the henna paste, wrap each section in plastic wrap to retain moisture and keep the henna from drying out.

9. Cover with a shower cap: To further lock in moisture, place a shower cap over your head once all sections are wrapped with plastic.

10. Allow the henna to sit: Let the mixture sit on your hair for three to four hours. This allows the dye molecules to absorb into your hair strands and fully develop the color. Longer application time may result in a deeper red shade.

11. Rinse out the henna: Using lukewarm water, gently rinse your hair until all the henna paste is removed. Be patient, as this process may take some time.

12. Apply a conditioner: To restore moisture after rinsing, apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair, comb it through from roots to tips, and let it sit for a few minutes

13. Rinse and style as desired: Finish by rinsing out the conditioner with cool water to seal the hair cuticles. Towel or air dry your hair and style it as usual.

14. Maintain your vibrant red hue: To prolong the life of your red henna color, use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners designed for color-treated hair. Reapply henna every four to six weeks, depending on how often you wash and your color preference.

By following these 14 steps, you will achieve gorgeous, naturally red henna-dyed hair that is healthy and strong. Enjoy showing off your vibrant locks!
