How to Hang a Plate: 9 Steps

Hanging decorative plates on your wall can add a touch of charm and elegance to your living space. If you are new to displaying plates, you might be wondering how to do it. Follow these nine simple steps for hanging a plate on the wall.

1. Choose your plate(s)

Select the plates you want to display. Decorative plates come in various sizes, designs, and materials. Make sure the plate is clean and free from any dust or dirt before hanging it on the wall.

2. Select a location

Pick a suitable area or wall in your home that will showcase your plates effectively. Consider factors such as natural light, room layout, and desired visibility when selecting the location.

3. Measure and mark

Measure the distance between the center of each plate’s top section and its bottom section to determine their width and height. Use these measurements and a pencil to lightly mark the spot where you want each plate to hang on the wall.

4. Choose a hanging method

There are several methods for hanging decorative plates on the wall:

– Plate hangers: They are adjustable metal hangers that grip onto the edges of plates without causing damage.

– Adhesive disc hangers: They adhere to the back of the plate with moisture-activated glue giving an invisible hold.

– Wire hooks: These can be inserted behind the plate and hung directly onto nails or screws in the wall.

5. Install hardware

Install appropriate hardware for your chosen hanging method following the manufacturer’s instructions. If using plate hangers or wire hooks, attach them to your plate securely.

6. Prepare your wall

For added safety and stability, use anchors appropriate for your wall type when installing nails or screws in the marked locations.

7. Hang your plate

Carefully hang your plate by aligning it with the marked spot on the wall and hook it onto the nail or screw.

8. Align and adjust

If the plate isn’t level or isn’t positioned properly, gently adjust it until it sits level or in line with your desired arrangement.

9. Repeat for additional plates

If you are hanging multiple plates, follow the same process for each plate. Make sure that the distance between the plates is even and consistent to create a visually appealing display.

Congratulations! You have now successfully hung a plate (or multiple plates) on your wall, adding a personal touch to your home decor.
