How to Get GPS Coordinates From Google Maps
If you need to find the exact GPS coordinates for a location in Google Maps, the process is quite simple. Whether you are planning a trip or doing some geographical research, Google Maps can provide these details. Here’s how to retrieve GPS coordinates:
1. Open Google Maps: Go to the Google Maps website or open the mobile app on your device.
2. Search for a location: Enter the address or name of the place you want to find in the search bar and hit ‘Enter’ on your keyboard or tap ‘Search’ on your app.
3. Drop a pin: On a desktop, you can drop a pin by clicking on the exact spot you want. On mobile, press and hold on the screen until a pin appears.
4. Get the coordinates: Click on the pin if you’re using a desktop, and a box at the bottom will display with more information about that location, including its latitude and longitude. On mobile, tapping on the dropped pin will bring up an information pane at the bottom where you can find the coordinates.
5. Copy coordinates: With these details available, you can click on them to copy and paste wherever needed.
Alternatively, after dropping a pin on mobile, you could also scroll down in the information pane to find a section labeled ‘Coordinates’. Tap and hold the coordinates there to copy them.
Remember that GPS coordinates may appear in different formats: Degrees (D), minutes (M), seconds (S) and decimal degrees (DD). Usually, Google Maps provides them in decimal degrees which are widely used for navigation, including car navigation systems and handheld GPS units.
