1. Gather materials: To plant durian seeds, you’ll need a planting container, well-draining soil, a trowel, gloves, and the seeds themselves.

2. Choose healthy seeds: Select fresh, plump seeds from a ripe durian fruit. They should be slightly soft when squeezed, showing no signs of damage or mold.

3. Clean the seeds: Remove any remaining fruit flesh from the seed using water and a soft brush. Rinse the seeds thoroughly and let them air dry.

4. Prepare the planting container: Fill your chosen container with well-draining soil, leaving an inch or two at the top for watering purposes.

5. Create a planting hole: Uaing a trowel, make a hole in the soil about 1-2cm deep. The hole should be large enough to accommodate the seed comfortably.

6. Place the seed in the hole: Gently place the durian seed into the hole with the flat side facing down. Cover it with soil, pressing gently to remove air pockets.

7. Water the seed: Once planted, liberally water the seed to ensure proper hydration for germination.

8. Optimal growing conditions: Keep your planting container in a warm area (25-30°C) with ample sunlight and humidity levels between 60-80%.

9. Monitor moisture levels: Regularly check on your durian seedling to ensure it remains consistently moist as it germinates; this may require daily watering.

10. Germination: Durian seeds typically take between 3-10 days to germinate. Be patient and watch for any signs of growth emerging from the soil surface.

11. Transplanting: Once your durian seedling has sprouted and grown 3-4 sets of leaves, it’s time to transplant it into a larger pot or directly into your garden.

12. Proper spacing: If transplanting multiple seedlings, leave at least 20 feet (6 meters) of space between them to allow for proper growth and fruiting.

13. Nutrient requirements: Introduce nutrients by using balanced fertilizers or organic compost during the durian plant’s growth period, especially during its early years.

14. Pruning: Regularly prune your durian tree by removing dead or damaged branches to encourage healthy growth and increase the chances of successful fruiting.

By following these 14 steps, you’ll be on your way to successfully growing your own durian tree from seed. With proper care and patience, you can enjoy the unique flavor of this tropical fruit in just a few years!
