If you’re one of the many Windows users who rely on the Hyper-V virtualization platform, you may have encountered the frustrating error message “Feature name Microsoft-Hyper-V is unknown” (Error code: 0x800f080c). This error can occur for a variety of reasons, but fortunately, there are several fixes you can try to get Hyper-V up and running on your system once again. Here are a few tips to help you troubleshoot this error:

1. Check your system requirements

Before you do anything else, make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for running Hyper-V. These include a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, a 64-bit processor with Second Level Address Translation (SLAT) support, and at least 4GB of RAM. If your system doesn’t meet these requirements, you may need to upgrade your hardware or operating system before you can use Hyper-V.

2. Run the System File Checker

If your system meets the minimum requirements but you’re still getting the “Feature name Microsoft-Hyper-V is unknown” error, the next step is to run the System File Checker (SFC) to check for corrupted or missing system files. To do this, open an elevated command prompt (right-click on the Start menu and choose “Command Prompt (Admin)”) and type the command “sfc /scannow” (without quotes). This will scan your system for any corrupted files and attempt to repair them.

3. Check for updates

Another possible cause of the “Feature name Microsoft-Hyper-V is unknown” error is outdated or missing system updates. Make sure your system is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking “Check for updates.” If any updates are available, install them and then try enabling Hyper-V again.

4. Enable Hyper-V using DISM

If none of the above fixes work, you can try enabling Hyper-V using the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. To do this, open an elevated command prompt and type the following commands (press Enter after each one):

– “Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Microsoft-Hyper-V /All”
– “Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Microsoft-Hyper-V-Tools-All /All”
– “Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Microsoft-Hyper-V-Hypervisor /All”

After running these commands, restart your system and then try using Hyper-V again.

5. Perform a clean install of Windows

If none of the above solutions work, you may need to perform a clean install of Windows to fix the “Feature name Microsoft-Hyper-V is unknown” error. This is a last resort option and should only be attempted if all other troubleshooting steps have failed.

In conclusion, the “Feature name Microsoft-Hyper-V is unknown” 0x800f080c error can be a frustrating roadblock for Windows users who rely on Hyper-V. However, with these tips and troubleshooting steps, you should be able to get your virtualization platform up and running once again. If you continue to encounter this error, don’t hesitate to seek help from Microsoft support or online forums for further assistance.
