How to Fix a Sticky Laptop Key
Having a sticky laptop key can be frustrating and make typing difficult. However, fixing the issue is not as complicated as it may seem. In this article, we will guide you through some quick and easy steps to fix a sticky laptop key.
Step 1: Turn off the Laptop
Before attempting to fix the sticky key, we recommend turning off the laptop. This prevents any accidental actions and protects the machine from damage.
Step 2: Remove the Sticky Key
The next step is to remove the sticky key. You can use a flathead screwdriver or your fingernails to pry the key cap off gently. Be careful not to damage the key or the mechanism underneath.
Step 3: Clean the Key and Key Mechanism
After the key cap has been removed, clean it and the mechanism underneath using a soft-bristled brush and a can of compressed air. Remove any dirt, debris, or dust that may be causing the key to stick. You can also use a mild cleaning solution to remove any grime or oil.
Step 4: Check the Rubber Plunger
If the key still sticks after cleaning, check the rubber plunger. The rubber plunger is the part that presses the key down when you press it. Sometimes, the rubber plunger can become dislodged or misaligned, causing the key to stick. If this is the issue, gently reposition the rubber plunger back to its original position.
Step 5: Reattach the Key Cap
Finally, reattach the key cap back onto the mechanism. Make sure it is aligned correctly and press it firmly until it snaps into place.
