The full-screen Start menu was introduced in Windows 8 and is still a feature on Windows 10. While it has its fans, some people prefer the smaller, more compact Start menu, like the one on Windows 7. Fortunately, it’s easy to switch between the two modes. Here’s how to enable or disable the Windows full-screen Start menu.

Enabling or Disabling Full-Screen Start Menu on Windows 10

Step 1: Access the Settings app

You can access the Settings app by clicking on the Start Menu and selecting the gear icon. You can also press the Windows key + I to open it.

Step 2: Select Personalization

In the Settings app, click on the “Personalization” option.

Step 3: Click on Start

In the Personalization screen, click on “Start” in the left-hand menu.

Step 4: Toggle the switch under “Use Start full-screen”

To enable the full-screen Start menu, toggle the switch under “Use Start full-screen” to “On”. To disable it, toggle the switch to “Off”.

Step 5: Restart your computer

Once you’ve made the change, you’ll need to restart your computer to see the effect.

Enabling or Disabling Full-Screen Start Menu on Windows 8

Step 1: Right-click on the taskbar

Right-click on any empty space on the taskbar to open the context menu.

Step 2: Select Properties

In the context menu, select “Properties”. This will open the Taskbar and Navigation Properties window.

Step 3: Click on the Navigation tab

In the Taskbar and Navigation Properties window, click on the “Navigation” tab.

Step 4: Toggle the switch under “Start screen”

To enable the full-screen Start menu, tick the checkbox under “Start screen” that says “Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in”. To disable it, untick the checkbox.

Step 5: Apply settings and restart

Click on the “Apply” button and then click on “OK”. You’ll need to restart your computer to see the effect.

In conclusion, switching between the full-screen Start menu and the smaller one is quick and easy. Just follow the steps above to enable or disable the full-screen Start menu on Windows 10 or Windows 8.
