Drawing symmetrical shapes in Photoshop requires a lot of precision and attention to detail. A symmetrical shape is a shape that can be divided into two equal halves, where each half mirrors the other. In this article, we’ll look at some tips and tricks to help you draw perfectly symmetrical shapes in Photoshop.

Step 1: Set Up Your Workspace

Before starting, you need to ensure that your workspace is set up correctly. To draw a symmetrical shape, you should use the ‘Shape’ tool in Photoshop. The shape tool is a vector-based tool that allows you to create geometric shapes with a defined perimeter. You can access the shape tool by clicking on the shape icon in the toolbar.

Step 2: Select the Shape Tool

Select the shape tool that you want to use to draw your symmetrical shape. Photoshop has a range of shape tools to choose from, including the rectangle, ellipse, polygon, and line tool. Each of these tools can be used to create symmetrical shapes.

Step 3: Hold Down Shift Key

Once you have selected the shape tool, hold down the shift key. Holding down the shift key ensures that the shape you draw is perfectly symmetrical. When you draw a shape while holding down the shift key, Photoshop constrains the shape to a perfect circle or square.

 4: Draw the Shape

Click and drag your cursor across the canvas to draw the symmetrical shape. Holding down the shift key ensures that the sides of the shape are perfectly straight and the shape is symmetrical.

Step 5: Customize the Shape

Now that you have drawn your symmetrical shape, you can customize it to suit your needs. You can resize the shape, change the colour, fill it with a gradient or pattern, and add a stroke.

Step 6: Duplicate the Shape

If you want to create a symmetrical design using multiple shapes, you can duplicate the shape you have just created. To duplicate the shape, select the shape with the move tool, hold down the option key on a Mac or the alt key on a PC, and drag the shape to a new location. Continue to duplicate the shape until you have created the desired design.

Step 7: Align the Shapes

Once you have created multiple shapes, you may want to align them to ensure that they are perfectly symmetrical. To align the shapes, select all the shapes you want to align, go to ‘Align’ in the toolbar, and select the alignment option you want. You can align the shapes horizontally, vertically, or both.
