How to Draw Link

Spread the love

Link, the beloved protagonist of the famous Legend of Zelda franchise, has captured the hearts of millions and inspired many artists to create their depictions of this iconic character. If you’re looking to capture the essence of Link in your own way, with a touch of your individual creativity, this step-by-step guide is for you.

1. Gather your materials:

Before starting, gather all necessary materials including paper, pencil, eraser, and ink or colored pencils for final touches. You might also want to have a reference image handy for more accurate proportions and detailing.

2. Outline the basic shape:

Begin by lightly sketching out the basic shapes that form Link’s figure. This includes a circle for his head, an oval for his torso, and rectangles for his arms and legs. Keep these shapes simple at first; you will refine them as you progress.

3. Define facial features:

Next, create guidelines on the circular head shape to help position his eyes, nose, and mouth. Draw two almond-shaped eyes on either side of the vertical guideline. Add a triangle nose just below the eyes along the same line. Finish by placing a small smile line beneath the nose towards the bottom of the face.

4. Create Link’s iconic hair:

Start by sketching out bangs framing his face before moving onto longer strands that flow down both sides of his head. Don’t forget to add those distinctive sideburns! To draw his pointy ears, extend two triangle-like shapes from where the hair meets on either side.

5. Trace over clothing and accessories:

Beginning with his trademark green tunic, use rounded lines to create sleeves on either side of his torso. Add pants extending from beneath the tunic down to ankle level and overalls connecting from shoulders down to waistline. Draw simple boots covered by the ends of his pants as well as gloves covering most part of his hands. Finish off by adding a belt to his waist.

6. Sketch the Master Sword and shield:

Link would not be complete without his trusty sword and shield. Draw a sword extending from one hand with a distinctive hilt and an elongated, slightly curved blade. On the other side, sketch the Hylian Shield, a triangular shape with rounded corners and intricately designed patterns.

7. Refine lines and add details:

Now that you have the basic structure of Link’s figure in place, refine your lines by erasing unnecessary ones and adding definition to clothing folds or hair strands. Don’t forget finer details such as facial expressions, buckles on his belt, boots and gloves as well as any additional emblems or patterns on his accessories.

8. Ink or color your drawing:

Once you’re satisfied with your pencil sketch, you may now ink your lines with a fineliner, clean up any stray pencil marks and add color using colored pencils, markers or digital tools to bring your rendition of Link to life!

And there you have it – your very own drawn Link from The Legend of Zelda series! Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t turn out perfect the first time; practice makes perfect! Immerse yourself in the world of Hyrule and let it ignite your creativity as you continue honing your artistic skills.
