How to Draw Christmas Trees

It’s that time of the year again! The festive season is upon us, and what better way to get into the spirit than learning how to draw a charming Christmas tree? Whether you’re an experienced artist or a doodling enthusiast, our step-by-step guide will make it simple and enjoyable for you. So, let’s get started on creating your very own Yuletide masterpiece.

Step 1: Draw the Tree Outline

First, choose the size and shape of your Christmas tree. Start by drawing a small horizontal line for the base, which will determine the width of your tree. Next, draw two diagonal lines from the ends of that line, converging at a point higher up on your page to form an equilateral triangle. This will serve as the basic outline of your tree.

Step 2: Add Branches

Now it’s time to add branches that give character to your tree. Begin by drawing a series of slightly upward curving horizontal lines within the triangular outline. Space them out evenly and make each one shorter than the one below it. This will create a tiered look for your tree.

Step 3: Define Individual Branches

Instead of keeping those horizontal lines bare, let’s enhance each branch by adding small jagged edges along both sides of each line. These smaller lines will look like ‘V’ or ‘W’ shapes protruding from the main branches and should be varied in size to give the appearance of natural foliage.

Step 4: Draw-in the Trunk

A tree is incomplete without its trunk! To draw this part, simply extend two vertical lines down from the center of your triangle base. These lines should be relatively close together, indicating a sturdy trunk that supports your entire tree structure. Then, connect them at the bottom with another short horizontal line.

Step 5: Decorate Your Christmas Tree

Now it’s time for the most enjoyable part – decorating your tree! You can adorn it with your favorite Christmas ornaments, such as:

– Christmas balls: Draw small circles randomly distributed throughout your tree branches. Add a touch of shine to each ball by drawing a small white oval or curved line on one side.

  – Star: Draw a five-pointed star near the top of your tree. Ensure that the middle point faces upwards. It may be helpful to first sketch a small circle as a guide for the star’s center.

– Lights: Create the appearance of twinkling lights by drawing small, curved lines in clusters along the branches. Be sure to use different angles and vary their lengths.

– Tinsel or garlands: Give your tree more sparkle! Draw wavy lines draping over each branch tier, creating a zigzag pattern as you loop from branch to branch.

Step 6: Final Touches

To complete your drawing, add some shading or shadow effects underneath the branches to make them appear more three-dimensional. Lastly, go over your lines with your preferred art medium, be it colored pencils or markers, and add any additional decorations or background elements you like.

Congratulations! Now you can take pride in showcasing your hand-drawn Christmas tree as part of your festive celebrations. Remember that practice makes perfect — so keep honing your skills and continue exploring new ways to personalize and enhance your Christmas tree drawings. Happy Holidays!
