How to Draw a Yorkie
Drawing a charming and adorable Yorkie can be both a fun and rewarding experience. Yorkies, or Yorkshire Terriers, are small dog breeds known for their long, silky coats and playful personalities. In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the process of drawing a realistic and cute Yorkie that you’ll be proud to show off.
Materials Needed
– Pencil
– Eraser
– Paper
– Colored pencils (optional)
Step 1: Sketch the Basic Head Shape
Begin by drawing a circle that will represent your Yorkie’s head. This circle should be relatively small, as Yorkies are known for their petite size. Keep in mind that this is just a rough sketch, so don’t worry if it’s not perfect yet – you can refine the shape later.
Step 2: Add the Ears and Snout
Now, draw two triangles on the top of the head circle to represent ears. Make sure they’re slightly curved to give them a more natural look. To draw the snout, make an “L” shape extending from the bottom of your head circle. Then, close it with another curved line to form the bottom jaw.
Step 3: Sketching Eyes and Nose
For the eyes, draw two small ovals on either side of the snout with space in between them for the nose. Add two tiny circles inside each eye for reflections to make them appear lively. Draw a small triangle right in between the eyes as the nose, rounding off its corners for a softer look.
Step 4: Draw The Fur and Bow
Add fur texture around your Yorkie’s face by creating short strokes around the head and ears in zig-zag patterns to give it that signature fluffy appearance. Draw fur in layers for added dimension. Incorporate a bow on top of its head by sketching a small rectangle, and then add triangular shapes to create the bow’s loops. Also, don’t forget the two strands of ribbon extending from the bow.
Step 5: Sketch the Body
Moving onto the body, draw an elongated oval connected to the neck area of your Yorkie sketch, which represents your Yorkie’s chest area. Then, use tapered rectangular shapes to create the legs while keeping them thin at the top and slightly broader at the bottom. Ensure that feet are small and oval-shaped.
Step 6: Add Fur Texture to The Body
Continuing with the fur texture, add short zig-zag strokes around your Yorkie’s body to give it a fluffy appearance. Pay special attention to details such as fluffy tufts on its chest and hindquarters. Remember, Yorkies have long hair, so don’t be afraid to exaggerate with your strokes.
Step 7: Finalize Details
Erase any unnecessary lines and refine your drawing before darkening chosen lines. Add some extra touches like fur whiskers around the snout for added realism.
Step 8: Color Your Yorkie (optional)
If you want to bring your drawing to life, use colored pencils to color your Yorkie. Traditionally, they have a mix of blue and tan shades, but feel free to be creative with colors if you prefer.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully drawn a cute and realistic Yorkie! With practice, you’ll become more confident in your drawing skills. Keep exploring various techniques and enjoy creating adorable Yorkie drawings to showcase your talent.
