How to Do Victory Rolls

Introduction

Victory Rolls are a classic and iconic hairstyle that gained popularity during the 1940s and 1950s. Named after the victory roll maneuver performed by fighter planes during World War II, these elegant rolls add a touch of vintage glamour to any look. In this article, we’ll show you how to create victory rolls with step-by-step instructions.

What You’ll Need

– Comb

– Hairbrush

– Hairspray

– Bobby pins

– Hair clips (optional)

– Curling iron or hot rollers (optional)

Step 1: Prepare Your Hair

Start with clean, dry hair. Using a comb, create a deep side part in your hair. If your hair naturally curls or has waves, it’s helpful to use a curling iron or hot rollers to create smooth, soft curls before beginning. This will add texture and help your victory rolls hold their shape.

Step 2: Section Your Hair

Using your comb, create a section of hair about two inches wide from your front hairline, following the curve around your head towards the back. This will be your first victory roll. Use hair clips to keep the rest of your hair out of the way.

Step 3: Create The First Roll

Hold the section of hair away from your head and gently brush or comb through it to ensure there are no tangles. Apply a small amount of hairspray to give it some hold.

Begin rolling the ends of the hair around two fingers (your index and middle finger). Roll the hair up until you reach your scalp, making sure the roll sits on top of your head and slightly off-center. The roll should be tight enough to hold its shape but not so tight that it pulls on your scalp.

Step 4: Secure The Roll

Once the roll is in place, use bobby pins to secure it to your head. Slide the bobby pins through the back of the roll, under the hair, and close to the scalp. Be sure to use enough bobby pins so the roll feels secure and stays in place.

Step 5: Create The Second Roll

Repeat steps 2 through 4 on the other side of your part, creating a symmetrical roll on the opposite side of your head.

Step 6: Style The Rest Of Your Hair

You can style the remaining hair any way you like. For a classic look, brush it out into soft curls, or create a low chignon or ponytail.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Once both victory rolls are securely in place and you have styled the remaining hair, mist your entire head with hairspray to help hold everything in place. You can also accessorize with vintage-inspired hair combs or flowers for an added touch of glamour.

Conclusion

Victory Rolls are a stylish, elegant, and versatile hairstyle that can be dressed up or down for any occasion. With practice and patience, you’ll soon be able to create these timeless rolls with ease. Give this vintage look a try and channel your inner pin-up girl!
