How to Do the Thriller

Dancing like Michael Jackson is no easy feat, but with a little practice and determination, anyone can learn his iconic moves from the “Thriller” music video. With its spooky theme, “Thriller” is a popular dance to perform at Halloween parties or other themed events. Follow the guide below to learn how to do the Thriller step by step.

1. Zombie March:

Start by getting into character. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and slightly bent knees. Begin marching forward in a slow, steady pace while lifting your knees high.

2. Shoulder Pop:

As you march, add in shoulder pops for added flair. Lift one shoulder up towards your ear as you step forward, and then alternate as you take the next step.

3. Spooky Hands:

While marching and popping your shoulders, incorporate creepy hand movements by curling your fingers in a claw-like manner.

4. Head Shake:

Now that your body is in motion, add some spookiness to the dance by shaking your head side-to-side at random intervals.

5. Monster Pose:

March for eight counts, and then strike a monster pose by flaring out your arms and sticking them out horizontally while bending them at a 90-degree angle at the elbow. Arch your back slightly and lean to one side.

6. Sway and Swing Arms:

Maintaining your monster pose, sway from side-to-side in sync with the beat of the song while simultaneously swinging your arms up and down.

7. Werewolf Swipe:

Transition into this move by stepping out with one leg bent at the knee and swipe across your face with your hand like a werewolf clawing its face.

8. Hip Thrusts (The Signature Move):

Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent. Place both hands on your hips and push them forward, then pull them back. Do this thrusting motion four times.

9. The Claws:

Continue your hip thrusts while extending both arms outwards with clawed fingers and rotate them while “hunting” the sky.

10. Final Zombie March:

After finishing the claws move, get back into the zombie march position and repeat the sequence from step one.

It may take some practice to get the steps smooth and natural, but with consistency and dedication, you can master the Thriller dance. To enhance your performance, consider dressing up as a zombie or another costume that suits the theme of Michael Jackson’s iconic music video. And most importantly, have fun while doing it!
