How to Do the Hand Jive: 11 Steps

Step 1: Get into the Groove
Find a comfortable space to practice your hand jive moves. Stand up straight, relax your shoulders, and be ready to move to some music.
Step 2: Start with Claps
Begin by clapping your hands together twice. This will be the first move in the dance sequence.
Step 3: Fist Bumps
Next, make fists with both hands and bump them together twice, resembling a “knock on wood” action.
Step 4: Add Thumbs Up
With both hands, form thumbs up signs and tap your thumbs over your shoulders—first the right one and then the left one.
Step 5: Repeat Claps

Step 9: Hip Tap
Place both hands on your hips at once, then lift them up and slap them down on your hips twice.
Step 10: Repeat Sequence
Now that you have learned all of the moves, repeat steps 2 through 9 continuously. Once you are familiar with each movement, you can perform them quicker and smoother.
