Step 1: Warm Up

Before starting any physical activity, it’s important to warm up your body. Spend 5-10 minutes doing light exercises such as jumping jacks, jogging, or dynamic stretches to increase blood flow and loosen up your muscles

Step 2: Stretch

Focus on stretching your wrists, shoulders, back, and legs. Hold each stretch for at least 15-30 seconds to increase flexibility and prevent injuries.

Step 3: Learn a Basic Cartwheel

If you haven’t mastered a basic cartwheel yet, learn it first. Place one hand on the ground followed by the other as you kick your legs into the air and land on the opposite foot.

Step 4: Build Strength

To successfully perform an aerial cartwheel, you’ll need core and upper body strength. Incorporate exercises like push-ups, planks, and handstands into your fitness routine.

Step 5: Practice Hurdles

A hurdling step helps build momentum for your aerial cartwheel. Run forward and take a long leap off one foot, landing on the other with your arms extended upwards.

Step 6: Master the One-Handed Cartwheel

As a stepping stone towards an aerial cartwheel, practice a one-handed cartwheel by removing one hand midway through the motion.

Step 7: Begin with a Spotter

Ask a trusted friend or coach to spot you as you attempt an aerial cartwheel. They can support you during the move, helping adjust your form and prevent injuries.

Step 8: Start on a Softer Surface

Practice on a soft surface such as mats or grass to minimize the risk of injury during initial attempts.

Step 9: Utilize Momentum

Working on proper run-up and hurdle technique will help provide the necessary momentum to lift you into the air for an aerial cartwheel.

Step 10: Focus on Leaping and Kicking

Instead of placing your hands on the ground, leap off the ground and use the momentum from your kick to propel you into the cartwheel.

Step 11: Maintain an Engaged Core

Throughout the move, keep your core engaged and your body straight. This will help you maintain balance and control during the aerial cartwheel.

Step 12: Land Properly

Aim to land with one foot first, followed by the other while keeping your arms extended overhead. This will help ensure a controlled landing.

Step 13: Practice Consistently

Like any skill, mastering an aerial cartwheel takes time and consistent practice. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it right away. Keep practicing and refining your technique as you build strength and confidence.

In conclusion, be patient with yourself, follow these steps, and practice regularly to learn how to perform an aerial cartwheel. Remember that safety comes first and always warm up and stretch before attempting such complex moves.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
