How to Delete a PayPal Account: 7 Steps

Deleting a PayPal account may seem daunting, but it is actually a straightforward process. Follow these 7 steps to close your account without any hiccups:

1. Log into your PayPal account: First and foremost, sign in to your account using your email address and password. Be sure you’re logged into the main PayPal website (www.paypal.com) rather than the mobile app.

2. Access your settings page: After logging in, click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of your screen. This icon will direct you to the settings page.

3. Locate the account options section: Inside the settings page, scroll down until you find the “Account Options” section.

4. Choose “Close your account”: Click on “Close your account,” which is typically located at the bottom of the account options section.

5. Confirm your details: Before you can close your account, PayPal may require you to confirm specific information, such as disclosing any remaining balance or ensuring all transactions have been settled.

6. Finalize closure: Double-check that you’ve completed any necessary actions before proceeding with closing your account, such as transferring any remaining balance to a linked bank account or card. Once done, confirm by clicking “Close Account.”

7. Verify closure notification email: You should receive an email confirmation from PayPal indicating that your account has been closed successfully. Be sure to keep this email for future reference if needed.

After completing these steps, your PayPal account should be closed permanently. However, if you face any issues or need further assistance during this process, don’t hesitate to reach out to PayPal’s customer support team for help.

Note that closing a personal or business PayPal account is irreversible meaning you cannot reopen it in the future; if you change your mind down the road and decide that you’d like to use PayPal again, you’ll have to create a new account.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
