Granite countertops are known for their beauty and durability, making them a popular choice for many homeowners. However, they also require proper care and maintenance to keep their pristine appearance. In this article, we will guide you through a step-by-step process on how to deep clean your granite countertops.

Materials Needed:

– Warm water
– Mild dish soap
– Microfiber cloth or soft sponge
– Isopropyl alcohol
– Soft-bristled brush or toothbrush
– Baking soda
– Hydrogen peroxide
– Sealant (specifically designed for granite countertops)

Step 1: Prepare a Cleaning Solution

Begin by mixing a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water in a bowl or container. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials as these can damage the surface of your granite countertop.

Step 2: Wipe Down the Surface

Using a microfiber cloth or soft sponge, gently wipe the surface of your granite countertop using the soapy water mixture. Pay particular attention to any spills or stains, and ensure you cover all areas.

Step 3: Tackle Tough Stains

For stubborn stains, create a paste with baking soda and water (for oil-based stains) or hydrogen peroxide (for water-based stains). Apply the paste directly onto the stain using a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush and gently scrub until the stain begins to lift.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry the Countertop

Rinse the countertop thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue from the cleaning
solutions. Be sure not to leave behind any soapy film on the surface. Then, use a clean microfiber cloth or paper towel to pat dry your countertop to prevent any streaks or watermarks.

Step 5: Sanitize Your Countertops

To ensure that your countertops are free from bacteria and germs, mix equal parts water and isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. Liberally spray this solution onto the countertop’s surface and let it sit for around 5 minutes. Wipe away the solution using a clean cloth, revealing a sanitized surface.

Step 6: Seal Your Countertops

To maintain the durability and longevity of your granite countertops, it is crucial to apply a sealant periodically. Select a product specifically designed for granite countertops and follow the manufacturer’s directions as you apply it evenly on the surface. This step preserves the natural beauty of your countertop while protecting it against stains and damage.

By following these steps diligently, you can effectively deep clean your granite countertops to ensure they remain looking their best throughout their lifespan. Remember to clean up spills immediately and avoid placing hot pots or pans directly on the surface to prevent any potential damages.
