1. Identify the toxic traits: The first step in dealing with toxic people is to pinpoint their specific toxic behaviors such as being manipulative, excessively negative, or overly critical.

2. Set boundaries: Be firm and assertive in setting boundaries to protect your mental and emotional health. Define the limits you won’t allow themselves to cross.

3. Maintain emotional distance: Do not become overly invested in pleasing a toxic person. Detach yourself emotionally from the situation to maintain your mental well-being.

4. Practice self-care: Prioritize your own mental, emotional, and physical health by scheduling time for self-care activities and mindfulness practices.

5.  Avoid engaging in conflict: Avoid getting caught up in unnecessary arguments or confrontations with toxic individuals. Instead, remain composed and professional when interacting with them.

6. Surround yourself with positivity: Counteract the negativity brought on by toxic people by forming strong connections with positive friends, family, and colleagues.

7. Focus on your own goals: Do not let a toxic person derail you from pursuing your dreams. Keep your focus on what truly matters – your personal growth and success.

8. Seek support from others: If you’re struggling to cope with a toxic person, confide in trusted friends, family members, or professionals for guidance and encouragement.

9. Communicate assertively: When it’s necessary to interact with a toxic person, communicate assertively without being aggressive or confrontational in order to establish your own boundaries.

10. Recognize your worth: Remind yourself of your own unique strengths and talents that make you valuable and do not let a toxic person’s behavior erode your self-esteem.

11. Limit contact if possible: If feasible, limit potential interactions with the toxic individual or remove them from your life altogether.

12. Develop coping mechanisms: Devise personal strategies for dealing with emotional distress caused by toxic people such as meditation, writing, or exercise.

13. Stay positive: No matter how tough it may be, focus on the positive aspects of your life and do not let toxic individuals define your experiences.

14. Learn from the experience: Use your interactions with toxic people as an opportunity for personal growth by identifying how you can improve your communication or emotional resilience.

15. Remember that you can’t change others: It’s crucial to accept that we cannot change the behavior of toxic individuals; we can only manage our own reactions and responses to them. Develop an understanding that letting go and disengaging is sometimes the healthiest choice for both parties.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
