Step 1: Gather Supplies

Before starting, gather the necessary supplies, including a sharp pair of scissors specifically meant for cutting hair, a fine-tooth comb, clips for holding back hair, and a mirror for checking your progress.

Step 2: Section Off Bangs

Using your comb, section off your desired bangs neatly. A good starting point is to create a triangular section that starts at the arches of your eyebrows and meets in the middle of your forehead.

Step 3: Choose Bang Length

Determine how long you want your choppy bangs to be. A general rule is not to go shorter than eyebrow length for the first cut.

Step 4: Settle on Bang Thickness

Decide on the thickness of your bangs, as thinner bangs create a more subtle, wispy look while thicker bangs give a bolder appearance.

Step 5: Hold Scissors Vertically

To achieve a choppy look, hold the scissors vertically, with the tips pointing upwards.

Step 6: Start Cutting at an Angle

Choose one side of the bang section and begin cutting at an angle. Cut small sections at a time to avoid mistakes.

Step 7: Cut Inward and Outward

Cut both inward and outward using an alternating motion to increase definition and texture in your bangs.

Step 8: Continue Across the Section

Continue cutting across the length of your bangs in this manner until you reach the other end of the section.

Step 9: Check for Evenness

Hold your comb against both sides of your bangs and compare lengths— trim any uneven spots as needed.

Step 10: Repeat Technique on Other Side (Optional)

If you want more dramatic choppy bangs with asymmetric lengths, follow steps 6 through 9 on the opposite side of your section.

Step 11: Blend Bangs into Hair

To blend your bangs into the rest of your hair, pick up small sections from the sides of the triangular section and cut them slightly longer than your bangs. Hold the scissors vertically, and maintain the choppy look.

Step 12: Texturize Edges

For even more texture, slide-cut the edges of your bangs by holding your scissors slightly open and moving them downwards in a cutting motion.

Step 13: Style Your Bangs

Use a flat iron, curling wand, or round brush to give shape to your freshly cut choppy bangs.

Step 14: Maintain Your Bangs

Trim your bangs regularly to maintain their desired length and texture. Typically, every 3-4 weeks is a good frequency.

Follow these 14 steps for successfully cutting choppy bangs and achieving a stylish new look!
