Pineapples are a sweet and tangy tropical fruit enjoyed all around the world. However, their tough exterior and spiky crown can make cutting into them seem like a daunting task. Fear not, we’ve broken down the process into 11 easy-to-follow steps so you can enjoy fresh pineapple in no time!

1. Gather your tools: You’ll need a sharp chef’s knife, a cutting board, and a container to store the pineapple pieces.

2. Wash your hands and prepare your work station: Cleanliness is crucial when handling any kind of food. Make sure your hands are clean and your work area is organized.

3. Remove the crown: Hold the pineapple firmly with one hand on its base, and use your other hand to gently twist off the crown.

4. Trim off the top and bottom of the pineapple: With a strong grip on your chef’s knife, cut off about an inch from both ends. This will create sturdy surfaces for easier slicing later on.

5. Stand the pineapple upright on your cutting board, on one of its newly-flat surfaces.

6. Slice off the skin: Starting at the top and working downwards, guide your chef’s knife along the curve of the pineapple to remove its tough outer skin. Be sure to maintain enough pressure to cut away any remaining eyes or brown spots.

7. Remove any missed spots or eyes: If you notice any remaining eyes after slicing off the skin, use a small paring knife to carefully remove them in diagonal lines.

8. Quarter the pineapple lengthwise: Stand your pineapple up again and cut it into four equal sections from top to bottom.

9. Remove the core from each quarter: The core of the pineapple is fibrous and tough to eat, so you’ll need to remove it from each section. Lay each quarter flat on your cutting board, and carefully slice away the core with your chef’s knife.

10. Slice each quarter into pineapple wedges or chunks: Depending on your preference, cut each of the four pineapple sections into bite-sized pieces.

11. Store the pineapple pieces in a container and refrigerate: Transfer your freshly-cut pineapple to a storage container, sealing it tightly with a lid to maintain freshness. Pineapple can be stored in the refrigerator for up to five days, or in the freezer for up to six months.

Congratulations, you now know how to cut a pineapple! Enjoy your fresh and delicious fruit, whether served solo or as part of a tasty recipe. Happy snacking!
