Introduction:

Crocheting a bikini bottom is an easy and rewarding project for any crochet enthusiast. With just basic crochet stitches and a few simple steps, you can create a unique, stylish, and comfortable bikini bottom for yourself or as a gift for someone else. Follow this step-by-step guide to make your very own crochet bikini bottom!

Materials you’ll need:

1. Cotton or cotton-blend yarn (in your desired color)

2. Crochet hook (size suitable for your chosen yarn)

3. Stitch markers

4. Tapestry needle

5. Scissors

6. Measuring tape

Step 1: Choose your size

Start by taking the necessary measurements to determine the appropriate size of your bikini bottom. Measure around your hips at the widest point and choose from the following options:

Small: 30-34 inches

Medium: 35-38 inches

Large: 39-42 inches

Step 2: Create the foundation chain

Create a slip knot on your crochet hook and chain the number of stitches necessary for your desired size, according to the following measurements:

Small: Chain 45

Medium: Chain 55

Large: Chain 65

Step 3: Begin crocheting in rows

To start, we will be using single crochet stitches throughout this project.

Row 1: Work one single crochet (sc) in the second chain from the hook and each chain across until you reach the end of the row.

Row 2 onwards: Chain one (counts as turning chain), turn your work, and single crochet in each stitch across.

Continue working in rows until you reach the desired length for the front of your bikini bottom. Measure from where you want it to sit on your waist to where you want it to meet with the back part.

Step 4: Shape the front

Next, we will decrease stitches to create the v-shaped front.

Row 1: Chain one (counts as turning chain), turn your work, single crochet in each stitch until you reach the last two stitches of the row. Single crochet two together (sc2tog).

Row 2 onwards: Repeat Row 1 until you reach your desired width for the front of your bikini bottom. Remember to try it on and adjust as needed.

Step 5: Create the back

To create the back portion, we will work in rows again, increasing our stitches.

Row 1 (increase row): Chain one (counts as turning chain), turn your work, and work two single crochets in the first stitch. Work a single crochet in each stitch across until the last stitch, where you’ll work another two single crochets.

Rows 2 – 4: Chain one (counts as turning chain), turn your work, and single crochet in each stitch across.

Repeat Rows 1-4 until you achieve the width necessary to cover your back side.

Continue working in regular single crochet rows until the back section is as long as the front section. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends with your tapestry needle.

Step 6: Create ties for your bikini bottom

Create two long chains (approximately 15-20 inches) for each side of your bikini bottom. Attach these chains at either end of both the front and back sections using a slip stitch. Weave in any loose ends.

Conclusion:

Congratulations! Your beautiful and functional crochet bikini bottom is complete! Now go ahead and pair it with a matching bikini top or mix and match for some fashionable fun at the beach or poolside. Happy crocheting!
