How to Cover a Black Eye: 9 Steps

Introduction:

A black eye is a common injury that can result from accidents or fights. While it’s essential to address any medical concerns and allow your body to heal, you may also be looking for ways to cover up the bruise in the meantime. Here are nine steps on how to conceal a black eye effectively.

Step 1: Apply Cold Compress

Start by applying a cold compress or ice pack to the black eye for 15-20 minutes at a time. The cold will help reduce swelling and discoloration. Be sure to wrap the ice pack in a cloth or towel and avoid direct contact with your skin to prevent frostbite.

Step 2: Assess the Healing Progress

Pay attention to how your black eye is healing. It’s important not to apply makeup too soon, as it may cause irritation or slow down the healing process. Wait at least 24 hours before attempting to cover up the bruise.

Step 3: Gather Makeup Supplies

Make sure you have all the necessary makeup products, including primer, color-correcting concealer, regular concealer, foundation, setting powder, and makeup brushes or sponges.

Step 4: Prep Your Skin

Start with clean and dry skin. To create a smooth base, apply a primer that suits your skin type.

Step 5: Color-Correcting Concealer

Using a color-correcting concealer will help neutralize the dark purple and blue shades of a black eye. For purple tones, use a yellow-based concealer; if your bruise has more blue tones, use an orange or peach-hued corrector. Apply the corrector sparingly and gently pat it into place.

Step 6: Apply Regular Concealer

Once the color corrector is blended well, apply your regular concealer on top of it. Choose one that closely matches your skin tone. Apply it using a brush, sponge, or your fingertips, and blend it seamlessly into your skin.

Step 7: Apply Foundation

After successfully concealing the black eye, lightly apply foundation over the entire face to even out your complexion. Be gentle around the bruised area to avoid aggravating the injury.

Step 8: Set with Powder

Using a translucent setting powder helps keep your makeup in place and prevent it from wearing off during the day. Lightly dust the powder all over your face, particularly over the concealed area.

Step 9: Complete Your Look

Finish off your makeup routine as you normally would – add mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and your other usual makeup products. Keep in mind that bright or bold eye makeup can draw attention to your hidden black eye. Opt for neutral shades for a more subtle look.

Conclusion:

Covering a black eye can help boost your confidence as you heal from the injury. Just remember to prioritize your health and healing process above all else. If you experience increased pain, severe swelling, or any signs of infection, consult a healthcare professional immediately.
