If you frequently use Google Maps for navigation, you may find yourself wanting to change the voice that gives you turn-by-turn directions. Perhaps you simply prefer a different voice or accent, or maybe you find your current voice too boring or annoying. Whatever your reason, changing the Google Maps navigation voice is a straightforward process that can be done in just a few steps.

Before we begin, it’s worth noting that the process may vary slightly depending on what device you’re using (Android, iPhone, or computer), and what version of Google Maps you have installed. However, the general steps should be the same across all platforms.

Step 1: Open Google Maps

First, open the Google Maps app on your device. If you’re using a computer, go to the Google Maps website.

Step 2: Go to the “Settings” menu

Next, tap the three horizontal lines (also known as the “hamburger” menu) in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. This will open the Google Maps menu. From here, select “Settings.”

Step 3: Choose “Navigation settings”

Scroll down until you see “Navigation settings” and tap it.

Step 4: Select “Voice”

Under “Driving options,” tap “Voice.”

Step 5: Choose a new voice

Here’s where the fun part comes in! You should see a list of available voices, both male and female, with different accents and languages. Scroll through the list and tap on any voice to hear a sample.

Once you’ve found a voice you like, simply tap it to select it. You can change the voice as many times as you like until you find the one that suits you best.

Step 6: Save your changes

Once you’ve chosen your new voice, tap the back button until you return to the main Google Maps menu. Your new voice should be active immediately, and you’ll hear it the next time you use Google Maps for navigation.

And that’s it! Changing the Google Maps navigation voice is a simple and quick process that can add some fun and customization to your daily commute. Whether you prefer a soothing voice or a more enthusiastic one, there’s a voice out there that’s perfect for you.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
