When it comes to international communication, knowing how to call another country can be a valuable piece of information. If you need to call China for business or personal reasons, it’s important to know the correct dialing procedure. In this article, we’ll guide you through 11 easy steps to help you successfully call China from anywhere in the world.

1. Check the time difference: Before making a call to China, make sure you are aware of the time difference between your location and the person you’re calling’s location. It’s essential to avoid making calls during uncomfortable hours for both parties.

2. Find the country code: To place an international call, you’ll need to dial the country code for China, which is +86.

3. Get the area code: In addition to the country code, you must also know the area code of the province or municipality where your recipient resides. Major cities like Beijing and Shanghai have their own area codes.

4. Get the local number: Obtain your contact’s local phone number in China. This will typically be an eight-digit number for landlines and 11 digits for cell phone numbers.

5. Dial your country’s exit code: Before dialing an international number, you need a prefix that allows your call to exit your country’s telephone system; this will vary depending on where you’re calling from.

6. Combine all codes and numbers: Put together the exit code, country code, area code (if necessary), and local number in that order. For example, if calling from the United States: 011 + 86 + [area code] + [local number].

7. Use a landline or mobile phone: Ensure that the phone you are using can make international calls; some devices may require subscriptions or special features.

8. Make your call: Dial the combined string of numbers from step 6 and wait for the dialed party to answer.

9. Be mindful of potential call charges: Calls from landlines or cell phones to China may incur international calling fees. Make sure to familiarize yourself with your phone carrier’s calling rates before making a long duration call.

10. Use alternatives like VoIP services: If you want a cost-effective solution, use VoIP services such as Skype, WhatsApp, or Viber. These apps allow for affordable or free international calls via the internet.

11. Practice courteous communication: When talking to someone in China, always be polite and respectful. Speak slowly and clearly to avoid any miscommunication due to language barriers.

By following these 11 straightforward steps, you’ll be able to effectively call China from anywhere in the world. Remember to check your local calling fees and explore alternative calling methods to make your international calls as cost-efficient as possible.
