In today’s rapidly-evolving world, becoming a person of culture is not just about achieving social prestige; it’s about broadening your horizons, learning about diverse cultures, and growing as an individual. Follow these steps to embark on your journey towards becoming a person of culture.

1. Read extensively: Delve into various genres, authors, and areas of literature. Reading provides invaluable insights into different perspectives and experiences, nurturing empathy and understanding for those around you. Besides classic works, explore contemporary fiction, poetry, essays, and biographies from authors across the globe.

2. Learn new languages: Language is at the heart of each culture. Learning another language allows you to immerse yourself in the customs, idioms, and experiences of people from different backgrounds. Start with just one language and progressively master more as you go.

3. Visit museums and cultural centers: Seek out opportunities to learn about art history and cultural movements by visiting museums, galleries, and cultural centers in your area or when traveling. Take advantage of the guided tours or audio guides to gain deeper insights into different aspects of arts and culture.

4. Travel the world: Exploring different countries exposes you to diverse ways of life—whether it be through food, regional customs or everyday practices—ultimately expanding your understanding of the world around you. Engage with locals when traveling to gain firsthand insight into their traditions and lifestyle.

5. Attend events: Regularly participate in cultural events in your community like film festivals, theater productions, music concerts or workshops at a local library or cultural center. Engaging with others passionate about art or literature enhances your understanding and appreciation for various cultural expressions.

6. Broaden your musical tastes: Appreciating a variety of musical styles enriches your cultural knowledge. Listen to genres beyond your favorite tunes–from classical compositions to world music–to access diverse perspectives and understand how music connects people across continents.

7. Explore new cuisines: Food is an integral component of every culture. Take the time to sample dishes from around the world and learn about their origins, ingredients, and cooking techniques. Visit local restaurants or try preparing traditional dishes at home.

8. Be a good listener: Actively listen when others share their experiences, beliefs or perspectives, whether during casual conversation or structured events like book clubs and film discussions. Engaging genuinely with people enriches your understanding of a wide array of cultural nuances.

9. Keep learning: Continuous learning is essential for personal growth. Take classes in history, art, music or any other area that interests you. Discover online platforms that offer courses on various subjects to help you expand your cultural knowledge at your own pace.

10. Stay open-minded: A person of culture remains open-minded and respectful towards different viewpoints, ideas, and traditions. Embrace curiosity without judgment, seek out opportunities to learn from others and challenge your assumptions about the world.

By cultivating cultural awareness and embracing diverse experiences, you can become a person of culture—a well-rounded individual who embraces diversity and contributes to a more understanding and inclusive society.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
