1. Prepare before class: Before attending class, review the assigned readings and jot down any questions that arise. This will help you stay informed and have a list of questions ready to ask.

2. Be attentive during lectures: Pay close attention to the information being presented, as it may answer some of your questions. Make notes of any new questions that emerge or concepts that need further clarification.

3. Wait for the right moment: Look for natural pauses in the lecture when the instructor asks if there are any questions or when they have finished explaining a concept before raising your hand to ask a question.

4. Build confidence: Some students may hesitate to ask questions due to fear of embarrassment or judgment from their peers. It’s important to remember that other students may share the same doubts, and by asking your question, you could be helping them as well.

5. Raise your hand: Signal the instructor by raising your hand when you have a question or when it is appropriate according to class protocol.

6. Speak clearly and succinctly: When called upon, confidently articulate your question using clear language and phrasing. Keep it concise yet specific so that others can easily understand your inquiry.

7. Start with a context: Briefly describe which topic or concept you need help with before asking your question, so the instructor knows where to focus their answer.

8. Use polite language: Always remember to be respectful and use polite language when addressing your instructor or classmates.

9. Be patient: Wait for the instructor’s response, even if they may need time to think about the question or gather additional information before answering it thoroughly.

10. Be open-minded: Keep an open mind as the instructor answers your question; their explanation may provide new insights or help clarify a concept for you and others in the class.

11. Take notes on the answer: Write down key points from the instructor’s response to help solidify your understanding of the material and ensure you have a record for future reference.

12. Follow up if necessary: If you still have concerns or need further clarification, don’t hesitate to ask additional questions while the topic is being discussed or approach the instructor after class to seek further clarification.

By following these 12 steps, you can confidently and effectively ask questions in class, enhancing both your understanding of the material and your overall learning experience.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
