1. Self-assessment: Begin by understanding your interests and skills to determine the type of internships that align with your career goals.

2. Research: Scout for potential organizations or companies in your field of interest. Visit their websites and social media pages to gain insights into their work culture, projects, and internship offerings.

3. Networking: Reach out to professors, friends, alumni, and professional contacts for potential leads on internships and company information.

4. Prepare a strong resume: Create a tailored resume highlighting your relevant education, skills, projects, and past experiences.

5. Create a cover letter: Draft a customized cover letter for each internship application, addressing how your skills align with the organization’s needs and expressing your interest in the role.

6. Build an online presence: Maintain a professional LinkedIn profile showcasing your accomplishments, experiences, and skillsets. You can also create an online portfolio if applicable for your field (e.g., graphic design).

7. Utilize job search engines and internship boards: Register on job search platforms like Indeed, Glassdoor, or Internships.com to find internship opportunities in your domain.

8. Attend career fairs: Take part in university or community-organized career fairs to connect with potential employers in person.

9. Apply strategically: Make a list of target companies and prioritize submitting applications based on deadlines and personal preferences (e.g., location, company size).

10. Proofread application materials: Double-check your resume, cover letter, and any other application materials for spelling or grammar errors before submission.

11. Follow up after applying: After submitting the application, send a polite follow-up email to the concerned person (provided their contact details are available) expressing gratitude for considering your application.

12. Prepare for interviews: If shortlisted, research the company thoroughly and familiarize yourself with possible interview questions related to your role or field.

13. Send a thank-you note: After the interview, send a personalized thank-you email to the interviewer(s) reiterating your interest in the position and appreciation for their time.

14. Learn from feedback: If you don’t secure an internship, seek feedback from your interviewers or recruiters to improve your application for future opportunities. Continue networking and searching for other internships and don’t get disheartened.

Gear up, stay persistent, and follow these 14 steps to increase your chances of landing your dream internship. Good luck!

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
