How to Add Mods to The Sims 4: 11 Steps

Introduction:

The Sims 4 has been a widely popular life simulation game where players can create their own digital world and characters. Mods (short for modifications) are third-party content made by talented creators to enhance gameplay, provide extra features or sometimes change the game entirely. This guide will teach you how to add mods to The Sims 4 in 11 simple steps.

Step 1: Backup Your Save Files

Before you start modding, it’s essential to backup your save files to avoid any potential data loss or mishaps that may occur due to overwritten files. Copy your save files from ‘Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves’ folder and store them in a safe location.

Step 2: Locate Mods Folder

Navigate to your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods folder. If there isn’t one, create a new folder and name it “Mods.”

Step 3: Enable Custom Content and Mods

In The Sims 4, go to the main menu and click on “Options” then “Game Options.” Next, go to the “Other” tab and make sure both “Enable Custom Content and Mods” and “Script Mods Allowed” are checked. Click “Apply Changes” and restart the game.

Step 4: Downloading Mods

Search for your desired mods using reputable websites such as The Sims Resource, ModTheSims, or any other known modding community. Read all instructions provided on the mod page, as some mods might have specific requirements or compatibility issues.

Step 5: Extract/Unzip Mod Files

Most downloads will come as .zip or .rar archives. You’ll need software like WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the contents. After extracting them, you should find .package and/or .ts4script files – these are your mods.

Step 6: Copy Mod Files

Copy the extracted mod files (.package and .ts4script) directly to your Mods folder (Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods).

Step 7: Organize Mods (Optional)

To keep your Mods folder clean and organized, it’s a good idea to create subfolders for different types of mods (e.g., clothing, hair, game modifications, etc.). Move your mod files into their respective subfolders.

Step 8: Test Your Game

Start The Sims 4 and load up a save file. If you’re using custom content like clothing or hairstyles, go to Create-A-Sim mode and check if the added assets are available to use. For gameplay modification mods, play a bit and look out for any changes/mod-specific features.

Step 9: Troubleshooting Mods

If there are issues with certain mods or compatibility conflicts, remove the suspected mod files from the Mods folder or disable them temporarily by following Step 3. Test your game again, and repeat this process until you identify the problematic mod.

Step 10: Updating Your Mods

Keep an eye out for updates on mods since creators often release new versions or compatible patches after game updates. Check the websites where you downloaded the mods for any announcements periodically.

Step 11: Enjoy Your Game!

With your custom content and modifications installed, enjoy a more immersive and personalized gaming experience in The Sims 4 world!

Conclusion:

Adding mods to The Sims 4 is an easy process that opens up a world of possibilities for avid simmers. Follow these simple steps above to revamp your simulation experience!
