How Does Portal Work?

Portal is a video calling device developed by Facebook that allows users to make video calls to other Portal users or to anyone with a Facebook account. It is designed to make video calling as easy and convenient as possible, with features such as Smart Camera and Smart Sound that adapt to the user’s movements and environment.

The Portal device uses a combination of hardware and software to provide a seamless video calling experience. It has a wide-angle camera that can capture video up to 1080p resolution, and a built-in microphone array that can pick up sound from all directions. The device also has a 10-inch or 15-inch touch screen display, depending on the model, that can be used to control the device and view the video call.

One of the key features of Portal is its Smart Camera technology. This feature uses artificial intelligence to automatically pan and zoom the camera to keep the user in frame, even if they move around the room. This is particularly useful for video calls with multiple people, as the camera can track multiple faces and switch between them as necessary.

Another feature of Portal is Smart Sound, which uses a similar technology to adjust the volume and clarity of the user’s voice based on their position in the room. This ensures that the user’s voice is always clear and easy to understand, even if they are moving around or speaking softly.

Portal also has a variety of other features designed to make video calling as convenient as possible. For example, users can use voice commands to start and end calls, and the device can be synced with other smart home devices to control lights, music, and other features.

In terms of security and privacy, Portal has a number of features to protect user data. For example, the device has a physical camera cover that can be used to block the camera when it is not in use, and all video calls are encrypted for added security.

Overall, Portal is a powerful and convenient video calling device that uses cutting-edge technology to provide a seamless and intuitive video calling experience. Whether for personal or professional use, Portal is a great option for anyone looking for a high-quality video calling device.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
