Hero Shooter Video Games: A Comprehensive Guide on Gigantic

Gigantic, developed by Motiga and released in 2017, was a unique entry in the hero shooter genre that combined elements of MOBAs, third-person shooters, and even fighting games. Despite its relatively short lifespan (servers were shut down in 2018), Gigantic left a lasting impression on those who experienced its innovative gameplay.

At its core, Gigantic was a 5v5 team-based game where players controlled heroes called “Guardians.” What set it apart was its primary objective: instead of capturing points or escorting payloads, teams fought to power up and direct massive creatures called Guardians. These Guardians would clash in spectacular battles, with the team that defeated the enemy Guardian emerging victorious.

The game featured a diverse roster of heroes, each with unique abilities and playstyles. What made Gigantic’s heroes stand out was the fluidity of their movement and combat. The game emphasized verticality and agility, with many heroes capable of double jumps, wall-running, and other acrobatic feats. This focus on movement created a dynamic and fast-paced combat system that rewarded skill and quick thinking.

Gigantic’s art style was another standout feature. The game boasted a vibrant, almost painterly aesthetic that gave it a distinct look among hero shooters. Character designs were creative and varied, ranging from cute creatures to imposing warriors, each with a unique silhouette that made them instantly recognizable on the battlefield.

The game’s map design was intricate and vertical, encouraging players to use the environment to their advantage. Power orbs scattered around the map could be collected to charge up the team’s
