Greater Boston is a haven for bakery aficionados, with a plethora of options that can satisfy every craving from rustic sourdoughs to delicate pastries. Here is a rundown of some of the best bakeries where you can treat yourself to some delicious baked goods.

1. Flour Bakery + Café: With multiple locations across Boston, Flour Bakery is the brainchild of chef Joanne Chang. Known for their sticky buns, which even won a throwdown against celebrity chef Bobby Flay, they also offer a wide range of pastries, breads, sandwiches, and salads.

2. Tatte Bakery & Café: Tatte’s popularity has been consistently on the rise since its inception, much due to its Instagram-worthy interiors and equally impressive array of baked goods. Their shakshuka and challah bread are local favorites.

3. Clear Flour Bread: Located in Brookline, this bakery specializes in traditional French and Italian bread. Their old-world techniques result in impeccable crusty baguettes, buttery croissants, and a selection of artisanal loaves.

4. Mike’s Pastry: A North End institution, Mike’s Pastry is famous for its cannoli. A must-try for visitors and locals alike, there’s always a selection of traditional Italian pastries that keep people coming back.

5. Modern Pastry: Another jewel in the North End, Modern Pastry rivals Mike’s with equally delicious cannoli but offers its own unique set of Italian desserts like torrone and biscotti.

6. Sofra Bakery & Café: This Middle Eastern inspired bakery located in Cambridge tantalizes with its unique offerings like baklava, ma’amoul, and savory flatbreads. It’s not just their sweets – their mezze and brunch dishes are also worth a detour.

7. Bova’s Bakery: Open 24 hours, Bova’s is another North End favorite providing an array of Sicilian pastries, gelato, and calzones all day and night – perfect for late-night cravings.

8. Iggy’s Bread: For those who love their carbs wholesomely grainy and organic, Iggy’s Bread in Cambridge offers a variety of healthy bread options including their famous Francese loaf.

9. L.A. Burdick Chocolates: While primarily known for their exquisite handcrafted chocolates, their Harvard Square location also serves European-style pastries that are as beautiful as they are delicious.

10. Pastry Chef: For those with a taste for Portuguese treats, Stoughton’s Portuguese bakery excites with offerings like custard tarts (pastéis de nata) that simply melt in your mouth.

The Greater Boston area proves to be an epicurean delight when it comes to baked goods with each bakery offering something uniquely special – ensuring there’s something for everyone’s palate.
