Introduction

Pizza is a timeless dish loved by millions of people worldwide. There’s no shortage of topping combinations, but few are as unique and refreshing as ham and pineapple pizza. Often referred to as the “Hawaiian pizza,” this delightful blend of savory ham and sweet pineapple is a favorite among pizza enthusiasts.

In this article, we will guide you through the process of making your very own ham and pineapple pizza from scratch, including the dough, sauce, and toppings.

Ingredients

For the pizza dough:

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 packet active dry yeast

– 1 tablespoon sugar

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– ¾ cup warm water

For the pizza sauce:

– 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon onion powder

– 1 teaspoon dried basil

– 1 teaspoon dried oregano

– Salt and pepper to taste

For the toppings:

– 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

– ½ cup cooked ham, sliced or cubed

– ½ cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned)

– Optional: freshly chopped cilantro or parsley for garnish

Instructions

Making the pizza dough:

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

2. Add warm water and olive oil to the mixture while stirring until a dough forms.

3. Knead the dough for about five minutes on a floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic.

4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for approximately one hour or until doubled in size.

Preparing the pizza sauce:

1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine tomato sauce with garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, and dried oregano.

2. Simmer the mixture for approximately 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the flavors meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Assembling and baking the pizza:

1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

2. Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness (ideally, this should be around 1/4-inch thick).

3. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a parchment-lined or greased pizza stone or baking sheet.

4. Evenly spread the prepared pizza sauce onto the dough, leaving a slight border around the edges.

5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce layer.

6. Distribute the ham slices or cubes evenly across the pizza, followed by pineapple chunks.

7. Bake the pizza in your preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown.

8. Optionally, garnish with freshly chopped cilantro or parsley before slicing and serving.

Conclusion

Ham and pineapple pizza is an irresistible dish that brings together sweet and savory flavors in perfect harmony. By following this recipe, you can conveniently make this delightful pizza at home and share it with your friends and family members. So, gather everyone around, set out some napkins, and dig into one of the most unique and delicious pizza creations there is!
