Google Pixel 3 XL Review: Everything We Love About the Pixel 3 on a Bigger Screen

The Google Pixel 3 XL brings together all the features that made the standard Pixel 3 a standout option for Android enthusiasts and packs them into a larger, more immersive screen experience. Read on as we dive into what makes this device shine in comparison to its smaller counterpart.

Design and Display

The first thing you’ll notice about the Google Pixel 3 XL is its impressive 6.3-inch display, which offers vibrant colors, sharp resolution, and deep contrast levels. The OLED display with QHD+ (1440 x 2960) resolution provides an excellent visual experience for everything from watching videos to playing games. Sporting a tall 18.5:9 aspect ratio, this larger pixel ensures you can view more content on the screen.

With a glass back design, Google has finally introduced wireless charging capabilities into its flagship line of smartphones. The aesthetics are appealing too, thanks to the two-tone finish combining matte and glossy glass. Turning to protection, IP68 water and dust resistance grant users peace of mind in various conditions.

Camera Capabilities

One feature that sets the Pixel series apart from competitors is the incredible camera performance. The Google Pixel 3 XL is no exception, as it inherits the commendable single-lens 12.2 MP rear camera from its sibling. The innovative software technology and features like Night Sight make low-light photography even better than before.

On top of that, the dual-front 8 MP cameras include both wide-angle and standard lenses, enabling excellent group selfies or more inclusive video calls.

Performance and Battery Life

Under the hood, you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM that promises smooth multitasking and reliable performance for everyday usage or more taxing activities like gaming.

The Pixel 3 XL comes with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, offering ample space for apps, games, and media. Unfortunately, there’s no option to expand the storage via a microSD card.

One downside that comes with a larger screen is increased power consumption. However, the integrated 3,430mAh battery ensures longevity to get you through the day without frequent charging. The fast charging capabilities and new wireless charging compatibility make topping up your battery a breeze.

Software

The Google Pixel 3 XL runs on Android Pie out of the box, ensuring a clean, uncluttered user experience. Additionally, Google constantly provides timely software updates and security patches for Pixel devices.
Google Assistant integration is even deeper than before, with features like Call Screen and Duplex AI enabling users to avoid unwanted calls and even make reservations at restaurants through their phones.

Final Thoughts

The Google Pixel 3 XL offers everything we love about the Pixel 3 but on a bigger scale. With its stunning display, stellar camera performance, smooth software experience, and various smart features, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a top-tier smartphone with a larger screen. If you’re already captivated by the Pixel lineup and want that extra screen real estate to elevate your experience further, then the Pixel 3 XL is definitely worth considering.
