Galaxy S21 vs. Galaxy S20: Every difference between Samsung’s flagship phones

Introduction

Samsung’s flagship phones are known for their cutting-edge designs and high-tech features, making them popular choices for smartphone enthusiasts. The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20 are prime examples of this, with both offering impressive specs and capabilities. In this article, we will compare the features of the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20 to help you make an informed decision when choosing the ideal Samsung device.

Design

Both the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20 have sleek and modern designs, with metal frames and Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and rear. However, the main difference between them is that while the Galaxy S20 is all glass, the Galaxy S21 features a plastic back.

The display resolution on the Galaxy S21 is slightly lower than its predecessor (2400 x 1080 pixels compared to 3200 x 1440 on the S20) but still provides exquisite visuals. On both smartphones, you’ll find an Infinity-O AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate catering to a smooth and vibrant user experience.

Camera

The camera configurations for both phones are almost identical, featuring a trinity of lenses: a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 12MP primary wide lens, and a 64MP telephoto lens. The significant change introduced in the Galaxy S21 is its improved autofocus capabilities, offering better low-light performance and producing sharper images than its predecessor.

Performance

Underneath their sleek exteriors lie powerful processors. The Samsung Galaxy S21 includes the recently unveiled Snapdragon 888 chipset or Exynos 2100 (depending on your region), outperforming the previous year’s Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 found in the Galaxy S20.

One noticeable difference between these two powerhouses is in their storage capacities – whereas the Galaxy S20 offers expandable storage (up to an additional 1TB via microSD card), the S21 does not.

Battery and Charging

Both devices feature a similar battery capacity, with the Samsung Galaxy S21 having a 4000mAh power source, only marginally less than the S20’s 4100mAh. However, the more efficient Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 processors in the Galaxy S21 ensure less power consumption, resulting in improved battery life.

Another notable change is that in an attempt to reduce e-waste, the Galaxy S21 does not include a charger or earphones in the box, whereas the Galaxy S20 does come equipped with these accessories.

Conclusion

When comparing the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20, it’s clear that they share many similarities. However, substantial upgrades have been made to the newer model, such as better processing capabilities and an upgraded camera autofocus system. Still, one must also consider factors such as cost, user preference for a glass or plastic back cover, and need for expandable storage when choosing between these two Samsung flagship phones.
