Fortnite Drops Legacy Windows Support for Its Latest Season

Fortnite, the popular online video game, recently released its latest season – Chapter 2 Season 6. However, with this latest update, the game has stopped supporting legacy Windows versions.

Legacy Windows versions refer to older operating systems such as Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. This means that players who are still using these outdated operating systems will not be able to play Fortnite’s latest season. Instead, players will need to switch to a more up-to-date operating system like Windows 10.

This move isn’t surprising, given that Microsoft had already ended mainstream support for Windows 7 back in January 2020, and it’s only a matter of time until Windows 8.1 also becomes obsolete.

The reason behind this move is that Fortnite’s developers, Epic Games, are always looking to improve the game’s performance and optimize it for the latest hardware and software. Legacy Windows versions cannot keep up with the requirements of the game, and their continued support would hold back the development of new features.

While this news might be disheartening for players who are still using older operating systems, upgrading to Windows 10 is not only necessary for playing the latest version of Fortnite but also for overall cybersecurity and system stability. Windows 10 provides better security features, enhanced performance and greater stability, making it a dependable choice for gamers.

Fortnite is just the latest company to drop support for older operating systems. Tech giants like Microsoft and Google have also made similar moves, choosing to focus their resources on supporting the latest software and hardware.

In summary, Fortnite’s decision to drop support for legacy Windows versions is in keeping with the industry standards, as newer operating systems offer better performance, security, and stability. It’s imperative for players to upgrade their operating systems to ensure they have the best experience and security while gaming.
