Expert Reveals The Best Position To Help You Stay Asleep All Night If You Keep Waking Up

Experts have long studied sleep patterns and behaviors, aiming to help the countless individuals who struggle with interrupted sleep throughout the night. The secret to a sustained, uninterrupted slumber may lie in what is known as the “sleep position.” According to a recent study led by sleep specialist Dr. Sarah Brewer, the best position for staying asleep is the lateral or side position.

The study, involving numerous participants with varying sleep difficulties, closely monitored their sleep patterns using state-of-the-art technology. Remarkably, individuals who slept on their side experienced fewer awakenings compared to those who slept on their backs or stomachs. But why does side-sleeping appear to be more effective?

In the lateral position, there is less chance of airway collapse or obstruction which can cause apnea events, leading to frequent awakenings. Additionally, this posture supports natural spinal alignment, reducing the likelihood of back and neck pain that might disrupt sleep.

Dr. Brewer advises that for optimal results, sleeping on your left side is particularly beneficial. This preference stems from research suggesting that the orientation can improve circulation and digestion throughout the night due to anatomical considerations like the positions of various organs.

For individuals seeking to adopt this sleep position, Dr. Brewer recommends a firm mattress that supports alignment without allowing too much sinkage. Furthermore, using a body pillow can help maintain the side-sleeping position comfortably throughout the night.

In conclusion, if you find yourself struggling with waking up frequently during your rest, considering shifting to your side may just be the trick to help you achieve an undisturbed night’s sleep. Always consult with a healthcare provider or a sleep specialist for personalized advice and if problems persist.
