iPhone touch disease is a term used to describe an issue that affects some iPhone models, where the touch screen becomes unresponsive or erratic. This problem affects the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models, which have a tendency to bend under high pressure or impact.

What Causes iPhone Touch Disease?

The touch disease is caused by a design flaw in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, where the touch controller chip, also known as the Touch IC, disconnects from the logic board due to stress. This is caused by the phones bending or flexing as a result of being dropped, sat on, or squeezed tightly in pockets or bags. The disconnection of the Touch IC from the logic board interrupts communication between the touch screen and the phone’s processor, causing the touch screen to become unresponsive.

Symptoms of iPhone Touch Disease

The most common symptom of touch disease is a flickering gray bar that appears at the top of the phone’s screen, followed by a loss of touch screen functionality. The unresponsive touch screen may prevent users from accessing their phone or even making phone calls. The issue may also cause the phone’s software to freeze or crash, or the phone to shut down altogether.

How Can iPhone Touch Disease be Fixed?

Apple does not recognize iPhone touch disease as an official problem with its devices and will charge customers for a repair or replacement. However, there are third-party repair shops that specialize in fixing touch disease and have developed solutions to repair the damaged Touch IC. These repairs typically involve taking apart the phone, adding a small piece of metal to strengthen the connection between the Touch IC and the logic board, and reassembling the phone.

How Can iPhone Users Prevent Touch Disease?

The best way to prevent touch disease on your iPhone is by handling it with care. Avoid dropping or squeezing your phone too tightly, and avoid keeping it in your pants pocket where it can bend. Using a protective case with reinforced corners can also help prevent bending and flexing and reduce the risk of touch disease.

In conclusion, iPhone touch disease can be a frustrating issue for users of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models. But, with the right precautions and repairs, it can be resolved. It is important to handle your phone with care and seek out reputable repair services if you experience any symptoms of touch disease.
